For 2022, Vecinos will proudly award $8,000 in scholarships ranging in amounts from $500 to $8,000 depending on number of deserving applicants and financial need.  Students attending community college are encouraged to apply for a maximum award of $500.   

This year awards will be presented at a Vecinos General Membership meeting in June.

Scholarship criteria:

  1. Be a graduating high school senior for 2022
  2. Attend South Pasadena High School, (SPHS), or be a South Pasadena resident
  3. Be accepted as a full-time undergraduate college student in fall 2022. This includes students attending any accredited postsecondary institution.
  4. Authorize Vecinos to pull your official high school transcripts.
  5. Submit a photo of yourself for publicity, in case you are chosen for award.  Photo should be in color and with you in a neutral setting with no logos on any clothing showing.
  6. Optional: submit one letter of recommendation addressing your resilience, achievements or other positive character attributes.  
  7. Submit an application, including an essay portion requiring a 1,000 word (max),  response to one, or more of following prompts:
  • What insights have you gained through your past experiences in the Latinx community that help define your identity and your aspirations?  How do you imagine engaging in the Latinx community as you enter adulthood and beyond?
  • Describe your past contributions and engagement in or with the Latinx culture.  How do you imagine engaging in the Latinx community as you enter adulthood and beyond?

The application and letter of recommendation (if submitting) were due via email by Wednesday, May 18th, 2:30 p.m.
